Brisbane Couples Counselling, based in Paddington Brisbane, offers specialised couples therapy for three core presentations. All sessions are delivered by Michelle Janssen, a Gottman-trained couples counsellor and PACFA Clinical Member.

Affair Recovery and Infidelity Counselling
This is one of the core specialisations at Brisbane Couples Counselling. Affair recovery is some of the most complex and emotionally intense work in couples therapy, and it requires a therapist with specific training and experience.
Michelle works with both the partner who was betrayed and the partner who cheated, using the Gottman Method framework for affair recovery, which moves through three stages: Atone, Attune, and Attach. Sessions address betrayal trauma, managing triggers, rebuilding trust, structured disclosure, and ultimately the question of whether to rebuild the relationship or separate with dignity.
Infidelity counselling at Brisbane Couples Counselling covers physical affairs, emotional affairs, online affairs, and micro-cheating. Both in-person sessions in Paddington and online sessions across Australia are available.
Conflict and Communication Counselling
For couples stuck in the same arguments on repeat, struggling with communication breakdown, or feeling like they have drifted into a version of their relationship that no longer feels connected or functional.
This work draws on Gottman Method research, including the finding that 69 percent of relationship conflict is perpetual, meaning it is rooted in genuine differences that are not going to disappear. The goal is not to eliminate conflict but to help couples move through it without damaging the relationship in the process.
Sessions focus on understanding what is driving recurring arguments underneath the surface issue, interrupting escalation patterns, and rebuilding the friendship and connection that makes hard conversations feel less threatening.
Childfree and Life Stage Counselling
For couples navigating the decision about whether to have children, couples who have chosen a childfree life, and couples preparing for or adjusting to the transition to parenthood.
This work also covers mismatched desires about parenthood, the identity and relationship changes that come with the transition to parenthood, and the particular pressures on couples in their 20s and 30s navigating these decisions.
Who Brisbane Couples Counselling works with
Michelle works primarily with couples in their 20s and 30s who are serious about their relationship and ready to do the work that actually changes things. All relationship structures and identities are welcome. Online sessions are available for couples across Australia.
Sessions run 90 minutes and are available Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday at 108 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington Brisbane, and online.
